Plywood is an artificial wood product made of thin layers of solid wood bonded in layers. Plywood is sold in different grades, depending on the number of layers and the subsequent thickness and stability of the wood. When you buy a bed base made of plywood, the specifications don't always specify the grade of plywood or the number of layers used.
This can make it hard to know how solid the bottom of your bed is. What's more, it may seem stable at first, but over the years, through house relocations and bedroom rearrangements, it may weaken.
Unlike wooden bed bases, bed bases made of plywood - such as koala bed bases - immediately feel weaker than solid wood and are less likely to stand the test of time. The difference is weight. Solid wood feels denser and heavier than lower-quality plywood.
