5. 695
Six Nine Five: A Journey of Faith and Struggle
Six Nine Five is a film about the 491-year struggle of Hindus to reclaim the sacred birthplace of Lord Rama known as Ramjanmabhoomi. The film depicts the patience, courage, bravery, sacrifice, and devotion of countless devotees who have been waiting for justice for nearly 500 years.
695 story begins with Lord Rama’s eldest son Kush, who built a magnificent temple at Rama’s birthplace. However, when the Mughals invaded India, they destroyed many temples. On 21 March 1528, following Babur’s orders, his general Mir Baqi destroyed the Ram Janmabhoomi temple and built the Babri Masjid in its place, hurting the religious sentiments of many Hindus.
During the British rule in 1813, Hindus began demanding the return of their holy land, but their pleas were ignored. The first legal step was taken in 1885 when Mahant Raghubar Das of Nirmohi Akhara applied to build a Ram temple. On 23rd December 1949, holy idols of Lord Rama miraculously appeared inside the temple and devotees started worshiping there. However, the area was closed and sealed due to conflict.
In 1986, organizations like Sant Samaj, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Mahasabha, Bajrang Dal, RSS and BJP started a campaign to create awareness about Ramjanmabhoomi. On 25th September 1990, LK Advani started the Rath Yatra from Somnath to Ramjanmabhoomi. Despite efforts by the government to stop it, car sevaks (volunteers) from all communities gathered in Ayodhya.
